How to use your iPhone as a webcam on Windows
Windows has no built-in way to use an iPhone as a camera. Apple's Continuity Camera works only with a Mac, and Windows' own Phone Link camera works only with Android phones. Two ways do work, depending on where you need the camera.
Add phone camera, scan the code, and the phone's picture becomes the camera bubble.
Two ways that work
| Question | Floonova | A webcam app, such as Camo |
|---|---|---|
| The camera works in | Floonova's recordings and live streams | Any app that uses a webcam, including Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams |
| On the phone | Nothing. A page opens in Safari or Chrome | The webcam app's phone app |
| On the computer | Floonova, on Windows 10 or later | The webcam app's Windows app (Camo's needs Windows 10 or later) |
| Best for | Tutorials, demos and live streams | Video calls |
Need the phone in video calls? Use a webcam app. Need it in recordings or live streams? Floonova does that with nothing to install on the phone.
With Floonova, step by step
- Open Floonova on your PC and start a new recording. Choose Record, or Go live to stream.
- Click Add phone camera. A code appears on your screen.
- Point your iPhone's Camera app at the code. Tap the link that appears. A page opens in Safari; Chrome works too.
- Tap Enable camera, then Allow. The main camera is chosen for you. Tap Selfie camera to switch.
- Put the iPhone down. Its picture is now the camera bubble on your recording or your stream.
If something goes wrong
Camera access was denied
On the iPhone, open Settings, choose your browser (Safari or Chrome), tap Camera and choose Allow. Then go back to the page and tap Enable camera.
It won't connect
Put the iPhone and the PC on the same Wi-Fi; that usually fixes it. On a network that blocks the connection, such as some office or school Wi-Fi, switch the iPhone between Wi-Fi and mobile data and try again.
The picture stops when the iPhone locks
Floonova keeps the iPhone's screen on while it's connected, where the iPhone allows it, and the camera picks up again when you unlock it. For a long take, set Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock to Never, and change it back afterwards.
A better picture
- Use the main camera when you can. On most iPhones it's the sharper one, and you'll see yourself on the PC's screen.
- Stand the iPhone at eye level, about an arm's length away.
- Face the light: a window or a lamp in front of you, not behind.
- Plug it in for anything longer than a few minutes. Filming uses a lot of battery.
Questions
Does it work on Windows 10?
Yes. Floonova runs on Windows 10 or later.
Do I need iTunes, a cable or an Apple Account?
No. The iPhone connects through its browser, and there's nothing to sign in to on it.
Does the iPhone send sound too?
No, only the picture. Your voice comes from the PC's microphone, or one plugged into it.
Can I use my iPhone as a webcam in Zoom or Teams on Windows?
Not through Floonova, whose phone camera works in its own recordings and live streams. For video calls, use a webcam app such as Camo, which installs on both the iPhone and the PC.
What quality is the picture?
720p on the Free plan, and Full HD on Pro. See pricing
