How to record your screen and your face on Windows 11

Windows 11's Snipping Tool records the screen but not your camera. Microsoft's free Clipchamp editor records both, for up to 30 minutes at a time. Floonova records both with no time limit, and lets you move the camera while you record.

Cursor zoom keeps small text readable: the recording moves in and follows you. On Pro you can change any zoom afterwards.

Your options at a glance

ToolWhat it records
Snipping ToolA rectangle of your screen; no camera. Press Windows logo key + Shift + R to start.
ClipchampYour screen and your webcam together, free, up to 30 minutes per recording. For longer, make several recordings.
FloonovaYour screen or a window, your camera in a bubble you can move, your microphone and your computer's sound, with no time limit.

Screen only: Snipping Tool

Open Snipping Tool and choose Record, then New, or press Windows logo key + Shift + R. Select the area to record and choose Start, then Stop when you're done. You can save the clip as it is or open it in Clipchamp to edit it. It doesn't add your camera.

Screen and camera, up to 30 minutes: Clipchamp

Microsoft's Clipchamp editor has a screen and camera recorder that's free for all users. It records your screen and your webcam at the same time, up to 30 minutes per recording. For a longer session, make several recordings and join them in the editor.

Screen and camera in one app: Floonova

  1. Open Floonova and start a new recording. Choose what to record: your entire screen or a single window.
  2. Pick a camera and a microphone. Your PC's camera, a webcam, or your phone. Switch on system audio too if you want your computer's sound.
  3. Click Record. A small bar floats over your work with pause, stop, mute, the camera and the bubble's size. It never appears in the recording.
  4. Move the camera whenever you like. Drag the bubble, resize it, or give it the whole screen. The recording keeps every move.
  5. Stop, then trim. The take saves to your library. Trim the start and end and export an MP4, or on Pro, copy a link that plays in any browser.

Cursor zoom is on from the start: on Windows it zooms in where your cursor settles and follows you from there, so small text stays readable.

The first time

If Windows has the camera or microphone switched off for apps, turn them on in Settings → Privacy & security → Camera, and → Microphone, including access for desktop apps.
